Chers Amis,
Pippin and I just finished making his first lapbook and my was he proud! When Scarlett was in kindergarten we had great fun making lovely lapbooks on China, Africa, space, birds and more. Three years later, the children still like to pull them out and look at all the illustrations, read the entries and play with any manipulatives that haven't gone missing. Pippin was jealous so when I announced we were going to read a book about baking an apple pie and traveling the world so we could make his own lapbook he was THRILLED! It isn't very complicated, but he enjoyed assembling the pieces and placing them just so. He took careful pains coloring the map of the USA
to match the colors on his wooden puzzle. His favorite part was making the suitcase shape book and drawing everything he would bring with him on a trip. I still don't know where he got the idea for the snow mask or the video game and cartridge - we don't own any video games :-)

A friend of mine (Merci mille fois, Thanks, Carolyn!) graciously lent me several volumes of Five in a Row so we will be making many more lapbooks this year based on some of the wonderful books they discuss.
Friday we started The Glorious Flight: Across the Channel with Louis Bleriot July 25, 1909 so we will be learning all about flying machines - and France :-) Chouette!
